Private sector participation in the defence and aerospace sector is on the rise on the back of encouraging government policies, Bharat Dynamics CMD Commodore (retired) A Madhavarao told a CII conclave here on Thursday.

“Private sector’s participation is growing strongly. Defence exports crossed ₹23,000 crore in 2024-25 and we are following make-in-India-for-globe strategy,” he said, addressing the Defence & Aerospace Conclave 2025.

More than 3,500 organisations are registered with BDL as business partners of which over 1,500 companies are from the MSME sector. He also highlighted how research and development is a foundation for success and Bharat Dynamic spends almost 6% of the turnover on R&D efforts, CII said in a release on his address.

Telangana Council for Higher Education (TCHE) Chairman and Head of Centre for Aerospace & Defence, NALSAR, V. Balakista Reddy said the waves of globalisation, privatisation and liberalisation policies were touching aviation, space and defence sectors like never before. Aviation sector in India is witnessing tremendous growth and education sector needs to gear up to address this huge demand. New opportunities such as air taxis and air ambulances are emerging which are witnessing private sector participation. Many job opportunities are emerging in aviation sector and many new courses need to be introduced to cater to these market needs, he said.

CII Telangana chairman R. Sivaprasad Reddy said Telangana’s proactive governance model has created an environment where approvals are swift, transparent, and industry-friendly and turned the State into an attraction destination for the aerospace and defence sector.
