Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj and IT/BT Priyank Kharge on Saturday urged Union Jal Shakti Minister C.R. Patil to release the pending share of Central funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) to Karnataka to ensure timely completion of works and enable access to safe drinking water for rural households.
In a letter to Mr. Patil, he said the State has been proactively supporting the scheme through budgetary allocations and timely releases, including an allocation of ā¹11,050 crore in the current financial year.
āIt is pertinent to note that out of the total expenditure of ā¹35,698.58 crore, the Stateās share is ā¹24,598.45 crore while the Central share is only ā¹11,786.63 crore, which reflects the huge shortfall of the matching Central government share,ā he said.
He noted that the scheme requires sustained support from the Union government for effective implementation, including timely release of Central grants. āCurrently, bills amounting to approximately ā¹1,700 crore are pending for payment and bills amounting to ā¹2,600 crore are in the pipeline,ā he stated.
He said that Karnataka has been successfully implementing the mission, demonstrating significant physical and financial progress during 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26. Till date, he said, connections to more than 86% of rural households have been provided, and other multi-village and single-village schemes are at different stages of progress, urging for early release of pending funds.
