The Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) organised a protest to highlight alleged corruption in the functioning of the Animal Husbandry Department under the AINRC-BJP government in the Union Territory.

Taking milch cows and goats to the protest venue near Swadheshi Mill Complex as a mark of protest, the Congress workers, led by former Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy and Member of Parliament and PCC chief V. Vaithilingam, raised slogans against the government for “blatant violation” in the implementation of a scheme for buying milch cows.

The party alleged that funds meant for providing subsidy of ₹25,000 per dairy farmer for buying milch cows were misused by creating fake beneficiaries. The leaders said no action was initiated by the government on a complaint given by the party highlighting corruption in the implementation of the subsidy scheme.

Mr. Vaithilingam said there had been other instances of misappropriation of funds in the department. The AINRC-BJP government came to power by promising to increase domestic milk production, but the administration ended up buying milk from neighbouring States for a higher price.

“All these allegations have to be investigated, but the government has so far failed to act on the complaint,” he said. Others who participated in the agitation included former Ministers R. Kamalakannan and M. Kandasamy.
