The Puducherry government is likely to convene another session of the Legislative Assembly to introduce important Bills, as a sequel to the passing of the Puducherry Ease of Doing Business (Service Delivery) Act during the September session of the Assembly.
“We are planning to convene the Assembly in a few weeks, probably in the first week of December, to introduce key Bills to amend certain Acts to further promote the Union Territory as an ideal destination for investments and running industries. The amendments that we are planning to bring in are aligned with the Ease of Doing Business legislation,” said a ruling party member.
The planned legislations will focus on bringing labour law reforms by amending the Factories Act, Contract Labour Act, and Industrial Disputes Act. The session will also witness the introduction of the Jan Vishwas Bill aimed to decriminalise certain minor offences pertaining to several statutes.
“These legislations are basically aimed at giving more flexibility to industries in managing labour, including the women workforce. The Jan Vishwas Bill is aimed to promote trust-based governance and ease of doing business by simplifying rules and regulations. The legislation will also reduce the burden on courts,” said an official.
During the one-day session of the Assembly held in September, the government had passed the Puducherry Ease of Doing Business (Service Delivery) Bill and brought amendments to the Puducherry Town and Country Planning Act and the Puducherry Municipalities and Commune Panchayat Acts to improve the investment scenario in the UT.
