Railway doctor and team enable safe delivery of baby at railway station

A 24-year-old passenger, 33-34 weeks pregnant and suffering from preeclampsia (gestational hypertension), safely delivered a healthy baby, under the guidance of a railway doctor and team, at Visakhapatnam Railway Station on Thursday (November 27) night.

Travelling in train no. 22838, the passenger reported severe abdominal pain. On being examined she was found to be in active labour with dangerously high blood pressure of 180/100 mmHg and the fetal heart rate was recorded as 148 bpm.

Upon arrival at the Visakhapatnam station around 11:40 p.m, she was immediately shifted by the ambulance stationed at gate 1. Under the care of Dr. Bhashini Priyanka, Divisional Medical Officer /Waltair Division and her team, performed a successful normal vaginal delivery (NVD) inside the ambulance at 11:57 p.m.. The newborn cried immediately after birth and is reported to be healthy. Further treatment was provided at the Railway Hospital, Visakhapatnam, and was monitored under the supervision of Dr. Sharath Babu, Chief Medical Superintendent, before They were transferred to the King George Hospital (KGH) for further medical management and observation.

Divisional Railway Manager Lalit Bohra commended the swift action of Dr. Bhashini Priyanka and all those involved in ensuring the safe delivery of the baby under challenging circumstances.
