Railway projects worth ₹18,489 crore await clearance

The South Central Railway’s 10 railway projects are awaiting clearance from the Railway Board (RB), following the completion of field surveys and submission of detailed project reports. These projects span a total distance of 818.58 km and are estimated to cost around ₹18,489.71 crore, according to official sources.

The proposed new lines include: Dornakal–Miryalguda (97.45 km) – ₹2,184.45 crore; Ramagundam–Manuguru (207.8 km) – ₹4,014.38 crore; Karimnagar–Hasanparthi (61.80 km) – ₹1,418.60 crore; Bhadrachalam–Kovvur (48.6 km) – ₹1,172.19 crore; Patancheru–Adilabad (136.5 km) – ₹4,398 crore; and Bodhan–Latur (18.40 km) – ₹483.22 crore.

Other pending works awaiting permission include: Doubling of Vikarabad–Parli (79.02 km) – ₹1,651.55 crore; Doubling of Mudkhed–Pimpalkutti (47.50 km) – ₹720.19 crore; Tripling and quadrupling of Kazipet–Secunderabad (110.406 km) – ₹22,236.18 crore and Wadi–Guntakal (11.11 km) – ₹210.95 crore.

In addition, 13 ongoing projects covering 1,316.62 km are currently underway, with an estimated cost of ₹19,688.42 crore. These are expected to be completed over the next five years.

Projects nearing completion include: Third line between Kazipet and Vijayawada (183.64 km) – by March 2026, and doubling of Guntur–Bibinagar (139 km) – by December 2026. Next in line for commissioning: Rail-over-rail at Pagidipalli (8.54 km) – by March 2027; Bypass lines at Vishnupuram, Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Peddapalli, and Nashkal–Hasanparthi (35.97 km) – by March 2027.

Next in the pipeline are: Manoharabad–Kothapalli new line (151.36 km) – by January 2028; Rail-over-rail at Dornakal (10.50 km) – by February 2028; Errupalem–Amaravati–Nambur new line and Motumari–Vishnupuram doubling – by February 2028

Further ahead are: Doubling of Mudkhed–Medchal and Mahbubnagar–Dhone (294.82 km) – by December 2028; Third and fourth lines on Secunderabad–Wadi section (173.18 km) – by December 2030.

Additionally, survey work is in progress for 18 new projects covering 2,571.25 km, with an estimated cost of ₹45,620.30 crore. These include: Quadrupling of Kazipet–Balharshah and Kazipet–Vijayawada; Third line between Dornakal–Manuguru, and doubling between Peddapalli–Nizamabad.

Proposed new lines surveys are between: Vikarabad–Krishna; Patancheru–Adilabad; Dornakal–Gadwal; Adilabad–Gadchandur; Kacheguda (Umdanagar)–Chityal–Jaggayyapeta; Kondapalli–Sattupalli; Kothagudem–Kirandul; Tandur cement cluster–Zaheerabad; Bhupalapally–Kazipet (Hasanparthi) and Bodhan–Bidar.

Surveys are also underway for high-speed corridors between Hyderabad–Bengaluru and Hyderabad–Chennai, as well as a Regional Ring Rail. These are expected to be completed within the next one to two years. Including the high-speed corridors, the total estimated cost of all proposed and ongoing projects stands at pproximately ₹1.30 lakh crore, added official sources.
