Under the Chief Minister’s Thayumanavar Scheme, essential commodities for family cardholders aged above 70 years and persons with disabilities will be delivered at their doorsteps on November 3 and 4.
In a release, Collector S. Kandasamy said the scheme aims to ensure that ration supplies such as rice, sugar, and other essentials reach senior citizens and differently-abled cardholders directly at their homes. In Erode district, the scheme benefits 81,792 people (79,057 senior citizens aged above 70 years and 2,735 differently-abled persons), through a network of 1,263 fair price shops — comprising 924 full-time and 339 part-time outlets.
To facilitate the distribution, ration shop staff are using specially designed vehicles equipped with electronic weighing machines and Point of Sale (PoS) devices to deliver the commodities to the beneficiaries’ doorsteps. The release urged all eligible family cardholders to make use of the scheme.
