A real estate firm employee travelling on an MTC bus with ₹40 lakh was abducted by a four-member gang posing as an anti-drug police team and later abandoned near Potheri after they robbed him of the cash bag.

Police sources said that one Mabujohn, who runs a real estate business in Tiruchi, had sent his employee Saravanakumar, 55, to collect ₹40 lakh from a friend in Mannady. Saravanakumar was returning with the cash bag after collecting the money from the contact in Anna Salai.

While he was travelling in a bus near Vandalur on Friday, two men attempted to snatch the cash bag. When he raised an alarm, the bus conductor intervened. The unidentified men claimed they were policemen and alleged that Saravanakumar was carrying ganja in his bag. Under the pretext of an enquiry, they forced him to get off the bus and made him board a car.

They later abandoned him near Potheri after threatening him with a knife and fleeing with the cash bag. Based on Saravanakumar’s complaint, the police have launched an investigation.
