Relieve BLOs from other duties, govt. tells authorities

The State government has told authorities to issue necessary instructions to ensure that staff, designated as booth level officers (BLOs), are relieved from other duties, so that the enumeration work for Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls is completed by December 4. “Ensuring an error-free and inclusive electoral roll requires sustained field work by BLOs,” it said.

Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam issued a communication on November 18 to the Secretaries of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj; Revenue and Disaster Management; Municipal Administration and Water Supply; School Education; Cooperation, Food and Consumer Protection; Social Welfare and Women Empowerment; and Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Departments.

The communication followed representations from service associations stating that the SIR work was “placing considerable pressure” on officials of the departments.
