A group of Residents’ Welfare Associations (RWAs), civic groups, and farmers, under the banner ‘Anekal Taluk Citizens’ Protest Committee’, has announced a roadathon and a protest demanding better roads in the taluk on November 29.

“The condition of roads in the area are so bad that we are seeing health issues like back aches, and accidents almost everyday. The roads are not even fit for walking, leave alone being motorable,” said John Athaide, a resident of an apartment off Heelalige Road.

Rekha, another resident, said, “She met with an accident six months ago while trying to navigate a bad stretch of road while returning home after dropping her children to school. “I had to take bed rest for two months,” she said.

Ms. Rekha also pointed out to another case in her apartment complex and alleged that ambulances refused to come to their community due to the bad condition of roads and a senior citizen died at home.

Parjoth Pai, a resident of the same area, said that despite several petitions submitted to bureaucrats and elected representatives, there was no difference seen on the ground, forcing them to take to the streets.

On November 29, a large number of residents of communities living off Heelalige Road, Sampige Nagar Road, Singena Agrahara Road, and Anantha Nagara Road will march on the bad road stretches and later petition the tahsildar demanding immediate repair.
