A restaurant manager and three others were arrested for allegedly cheating a private restaurant in Thousand Lights of more than ₹24 lakh. Police also seized a car and seven mobile phones.
Syed Danish, 27, residing at Purasawalkam has been running a restaurant with his friends on 3rd Street, Wallace Garden, Nungambakkam, since January 5, 2024. A few months ago, while reviewing the restaurant’s accounts, Danish found that the manager, Mohammed Paris Rahuman, along with a few others, had allegedly committed fraud of over ₹24 lakh by altering bill amounts and diverting payments through QR codes.
Based on Danish’s complaint lodged with the Crime Wing of the Thousand Lights Police Station, the police registered a case and began investigations.
Subsequently, they arrested four persons involved in the fraud: Mohammed Paris Rahuman, 26, Malappuram, Kerala, Mohammed Hanif, 23, of Vellore, Ryan Ahamed, 21 of Vellore, and Boobalan, 23 of Washermenpet.
All four arrested persons were remanded in judicial custody.
