
The RMC has maintained its forecast of heavy rainfall in south Tamil Nadu and delta districts on Thursday (November 27, 2025) and a gradual increase in rainfall over the State from Friday (November 28, 2025).

The weather system over southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coast has intensified into a deep depression on Thursday (November 27, 2025) and is expected to strengthen into a cyclonic storm by Thursday evening.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), the deep depression, which is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by Thursday evening, is likely to move across southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Sri Lanka coasts towards north T.N., Puducherry and adjoining south Andhra Pradesh coast by Saturday (November 29, 2025).
Once it becomes a cyclonic storm, it may be named as cyclone Ditwah, a name contributed by Yemen to the list of tropical cyclone names curated by member countries of the World Meteorological Organisation and the U.N. Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
The RMC has maintained its forecast of heavy rainfall in south Tamil Nadu and delta districts on Thursday and a gradual increase in rainfall over the State from Friday (November 28, 2025). While delta and adjoining districts may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on Friday, intense rainfall is expected to spread to north Tamil Nadu districts on Saturday as the weather system climbs up.
Rainfall has eased over south T.N. as isolated rainfall was recorded during the past 24 hours ending 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. Thangachimadam in Ramanathapuram district received 3 cm of rainfall, which was the highest amount recorded in T.N. for the day. Oothu in Tirunelveli district, which was pounded by torrential downpour earlier this week, received 1 cm of rainfall.
The RMC has also issued advice to hoist storm warning signals in various ports, including Chennai, Cuddalore, Ennore, Thoothukudi, Nagapattinam and Karaikal.
In its Nowcast valid till 1 p.m, isolated light rainfall has been forecast in Kanniyakumari, Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts.
Meanwhile, Cyclone Senyar, which is centered over coastal areas of northeast Indonesia and adjoining Strait of Malacca is expected to move eastwards and maintain its intensity of cyclonic storm till November 27 forenoon. The RMC has indicated that the system will not have any impact over T.N.
