The Puttenahalli police have arrested a 34-year-old martial arts trainer and his wife for murdering a 24-year-old gig worker over a minor road rage incident in Srirama Layout, Puttenahalli on the night of October 25.

Darshan and his friend Varun G., both food delivery executives were riding a bike and brushed the side of a car breaking the mirror. Scared of the backlash, the duo fled the scene.

However, the now arrested occupants of the car Manoj Kumar, 34, who runs a martial arts training academy in Gottigere and his wife Aarti Sharma, 30, chased them for over 2 km. They deliberately rammed their car into the bike and fled even as the duo on the bike fell down. Though both were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, Arun was declared brought dead and Varun has suffered severe injuries and is being treated.

The J.P. Nagar Traffic Police initially registered a case of hit-and-run accident. However, analysing the CCTV camera footage from in and around the area, the police realised that those in the car took a U-turn, chased down those on the bike and deliberately rammed into the bike. Not only that, the footage also shows that the couple, masked up, came back to the spot hours later and collect parts of the car that had fallen off during the accident, to cover up their tracks, the police said.

The case was transferred to the Puttenahalli Police who tracked down the couple, arrested them and booked them for murder and destruction of evidence.
