The Halasuru Gate police have arrested a 45-year-old rowdy-sheeter who had robbed 23.2 kg of 49 silver bars worth ₹37 lakh from a jeweller recently.
The accused identified as Ayaz Choudhary, allegedly followed the jeweller who was carrying the silver bars on a scooter to hand it over to a customer. While the victim was busy in trying to place the helmet in the boot space, the accused allegedly picked up the bag containing the silver bars and escaped. The victim raised the alarm but the accused managed to flee.
Based on a complaint, the Halasuru Gate police took up a case.
After the picture of the accused was captured by a CCTV camera, it was corroborated with the habitual offenders’ gallery and the accused identified.
The police raided his house and arrested Ayaz. Based on his confession, the police have recovered the robbed valuables intact from 49 places across the city. The accused had over 50 criminal cases against him.
