The Railway Protection Force has instructed its personnel deployed at railway stations in Tiruchi division to be on high alert after the powerful explosion that occurred in New Delhi on Monday.

Surveillance has been stepped up at important railway stations and anti-sabotage checks have been carried out with round-the-clock monitoring by RPF personnel. Teams of RPF officers and personnel, Bomb Detection Squad and Government Railway Police jointly conducted thorough checks at Tiruchi railway junction late on Monday for suspicious looking objects.

Armed with equipment for detecting explosive substances, RPF and GRP personnel carried out anti-sabotage checks on trains, railway platforms, waiting hall, parcels and at the parking lot outside the railway junction.

“We are on high alert in the wake of the Delhi blast with security and surveillance having been stepped up at important stations including Tiruchi Junction, Villupuram, Thanjavur, Ariyalur, Mayiladuthurai and Vriddhachalam falling under the Tiruchi Division”, said a senior RPF officer.

Besides Tiruchi Junction, anti-sabotage checks were also carried out at Villupuram Junction through which several trains pass in both directions every day. RPF Inspectors at major stations have been asked to remain on a state of high alert and carry out checks at their stations.
