A 55-year-old rubber tapper from Jharkhand was killed by a wild elephant while working at Moolepadam, near Nilambur, Malappuram, Kerala, on Thursday morning. The deceased has been identified as Charu Oraon, aka Sharon.
He was returning along with his co-workers after the day’s work at Erayad Estate, Moolepadam, around 9.30 a.m. when the elephant charged at them from behind.
Oraon could not flee, while the others took cover. The elephant trampled him instantly. The survivors said the animal had been hiding behind the trees and charged without warning.
