Contract employees of rural libraries took out a protest march in Belagavi on Monday, demanding regularisation of services, timely salaries and better working conditions.
“Our services are temporary and salaries are low. We get fixed payments of ₹12,000 per month. But this salary is paid once in three months. Two of our colleagues have ended their lives due to this uncertainty. We do not have other facilities enjoyed by regular employees,” they said.
“If our demands are not met immediately, we will organise a protest in front of the Suvarna Soudha here during the winter session,” they said.
Vice-president of Karnataka Rural Library Employees Association Shankrayya Mathapati, K.V. Satyanarayan, Bharathi Nazare, K.C. Mohan, Shivarame Gowda, K.B. Ramanagara Pundalik Balayyagol, Sriram D. and others led the protest.
