Salem district surpassed the target fixed for the Armed Forces Flag Day fund in 2024 with 14 % additional collection, said District Collector R. Brindha Devi here on Sunday.
The Collector donated funds for Flag Day and launched the collection of funds on the occasion of Armed Forces Flag Day at the Salem Collectorate. She said the target for the Salem district last year was ₹ 2,30,48,000 and due to the efforts of the district administration, an additional 14.19% (total of ₹2,63,19,475) was collected. The target fixed for the Salem Corporation was ₹18,48,000 and the collection amounted to ₹20,30,525.
Stating that the Ex-Servicemen Welfare Department provided financial assistance of ₹1.55 crore to 566 beneficiaries this year through the Tamil Nadu Ex-Servicemen Welfare Fund and Consolidated Fund, the Collector said the Flag Day collection target for Salem district for 2025 was ₹2,42,50,000.
The Collector distributed welfare assistance worth ₹4.17 lakh to 17 ex-servicemen, including marriage assistance, financial aid for purchase of eyeglasses, housing loan subsidy, and educational scholarships. In the function, officials from the concerned departments participated.
