Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, through video conferencing on Monday (December 8, 2025), laid the foundation stone for the construction of two mini stadiums in Salem district by the Department of Youth Welfare and Sports Development. Tourism Minister R. Rajendran inspected the place identified for the project at Edappadi.
The two mini stadiums will come up at Vadugapatti in Sankari taluk and at the government boys higher secondary school in Edappadi. The Minister inspected the landand discussed with the officials about the facilities to be provided at the mini stadium.
Addressing the media, the Minister said that steps were being taken to set up mini stadiums to encourage fitness among sportspersons and to develop sports. The funds were allocated by the Chief Minister after the locations were identified for the project. In Salem district, the mini stadium at Vadugapatti will be constructed at a cost of ₹2.62 crore and in Edappadi at ₹3 crore. These mini stadiums will have a running track, gallery, basketball court, football ground, handball court, kho kho ground, kabaddi court, and also a gym, the Minister added.
In the function, District Collector R. Brindha Devi, Chief Educational Officer (CEO) P. Maheswari, District Sports Officer S. Sivaranjan, local body representatives, and officials from departments concerned participated.
