Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi on Sunday said that Sanatana Dharma encompassed everyone, including the non-believers.

“We have a 5,000-year-old civilisation based on Sanatana Dharma — which means eternal and indestructible — encompassing everyone, including those who do not believe,” the Governor said. “Even those who call Sanatana Dharma as ‘dengue’ and ‘malaria’ are treated as our own, because Sanatana cannot exclude anyone,” Mr. Ravi said.

He was speaking at the inaugural of the diamond jubilee (Maṇi Vizha) celebrations of the Thirukayilaya Paramparai Dharmapuram Aadheenam, marking the 60th anniversary of its 27th pontiff, Sri La Sri Masilamani Desika Gnanasambandha Paramacharya Swamigal in Mayiladuthurai.

He said the Adheenams had safeguarded and sustained the 5,000-year-old legacy of India’s civilisation rooted in Sanatana Dharma. The Governor said the Dharmapuram Aadheenam had continued to serve society through its spiritual and educational endeavours even during the colonial period. “This Aadheenam has served society, the nation, and Sanatana Dharma itself — through the worst of times, including British rule,” he said.
