Sanitation workers booked for unauthorised protest at Marina beach

The Anna Square police on Thursday registered an FIR against 83 conservancy workers, including 51 women, for staging an unauthorised protest at Marina beach. The case was booked under the provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita relating to unlawful assembly and holding a protest in a non-permitted area.

Around 87 workers took part in the demonstration on Wednesday. The protest began around 11 a.m., where around 40 workers walked into the water raising slogans and demanding employment directly under the Greater Chennai Corporation. The police and Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services personnel rushed to the spot and brought the protesters back to shore.
