SASTRA hosts programme on advanced infectious disease research

A three-day programme on global perspectives on infectious disease research – Exploring Advanced Microbial Pathogenesis was hosted by SASTRA, deemed to be a university, recently.

The event organised with an objective to bring together leading experts from India and Japan to advance infectious disease research and strengthen Indo–Japan scientific ties, was inaugurated by T. Ramamurthy, ICMR–NIRRVI Senior Consultant Scientist and former INSA Senior Scientist.

It was followed by a lecture by Shinji Yamasaki, INSA Overseas Chair Professor and Vice Director, Osaka Metropolitan University, Japan, highlighting the global importance of collaborative research in microbial pathogenesis.

Sessions featured updates from SASTRA’s research centres, including insights shared by K.S. Rajan, Dean, School of Chemical and Biotechnology, a panel discussion on global infectious disease challenges facilitated by Shobana Rajarom, Research Scholar, and visits to SASTRA’s cutting-edge research and innovation facilities formed part of the three-day event.

The programme concluded with reflections from dignitaries, marking a step forward in Indo–Japan academic and research partnerships, according to a university release.
