In a significant step towards solar power storage and conservation, the State-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) is all set to introduce Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Mandamarri Area of Mancherial district.
The government coal mining company has recently installed a 1 MW experimental BESS unit linked to its 28 MW solar power plant at Mandamarri at an estimated cost of ₹2.73 crore.
It will allow SCCL to utilise approximately 9.1 lakh units of otherwise unused solar power annually, resulting in saving of up to ₹70 lakh per year, a SCCL press release said.
The unit is all set to be commissioned soon. The SCCL is planning to set up additional BESS units at suitable locations across all coal mining areas. The SCCL has solar plants with a total capacity of 245.5 MW spread across the coal belt.
