South Central Railway’s Hyderabad division has operated 123 festival special trains this month and year out of the 973 specials run by the zone and overall 4.8 crore passengers travelled inward and outward across the regular, express, passenger and special trains, said divisional railway manager Santosh Kumar Verma.
During a recent media interaction at Nizamabad railway station, he said that the Indian Railways has planned to operate more than 12,000 special trains to facilitate passengers during Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath Puja festivals across the country.
Additional stoppages to trains have been provided at Lingampalli, Hi-tech City, Charlapalli and Malkajgiri to reduce the burden on important terminals of Hyderabad City. Joint teams of officers and supervisors from departments like operating, commercial, RPF, mechanical, electrical, engineering and S&T were formed for round-the-clock monitoring at stations on peak days.
Further, war rooms/rail madad cells were strengthened. Catering stalls at stations have been alerted to handle additional requirement. Checks have been conducted to prevent cases of overcharging and unauthorized hawking, he added in a press release.
