A clash broke out between two inmates at the Chanchalguda Central Prison on Wednesday morning, leading to brief tension inside the facility.

Prison officials identified the inmates as Jabri and Dastagiri, stating that both are habitual offenders. A senior prison officer said Dastagiri during an argument, allegedly twisted Jabri’s arm, prompting a physical scuffle.

Dastagiri has been lodged in prison for the past six months in connection with a murder case, while Jabri had been admitted only the previous night, also on a murder charge, officials said. The two were reportedly acquainted from earlier periods of incarceration, and the clash is believed to have stemmed from an old enmity.

At the time of the incident, Jabri was undergoing a routine medical screening, while Dastagiri had arrived at the medical room complaining of stomach pain. The disagreement quickly escalated into a fight before prison staff intervened and separated them.

Authorities clarified that no property was damaged in the altercation. They also denied reports linking the incident to damage in the prison’s mulaqat (visitor) room. “That was a separate case,” an official said, adding, “A prisoner, frustrated after repeated bail rejections, damaged the glass panel when his mother came to meet him.”

Prison officials confirmed that both Jabri and Dastagiri have been counselled, and the situation inside the prison remains under control.
