Security tightened in public places, sensitive areas

Following the blast in New Delhi which resulted in several casualties, an alert has been sounded across the country and the Hubballi-Dharwad Police have beefed up security at public places and sensitive regions.

On Monday night, Hubballi-Dharwad Police Commissioner N. Shashikumar accompanied by Deputy Commissioners of Police Raveesh C.R. and Mahaning Nandagavi,Ā along with officials, visited various public utilities, including Hubballi Railway Station to take stock of the situation and review security checks.

Mr. Shashikumar told presspersons that they have taken the requisite security measures in the wake of the alert sounded by the senior authorities.

ā€œWe have deployed our forces in public utilities like bus stations, railway stations, malls, bigger places of worship and religious establishments, where the movement of people is more. We are also keeping an eye on movement of vehicles used for long distance travel and movement of people from other places staying in lodges near railway stations and bus stations,ā€ he said.

The Police Commissioner said that regular checks will be conducted at large parking spaces of commercial complexes, including malls, to look for suspicious objects and movement of people.

He said that check-posts have been set up at the five entry points to the twin cities of Hubballi-Dharwad and vehicles are being checked.

Anti-sabotage check team, dog squad and bomb disposal squad have also been pressed into service, he added.

Meanwhile, the personnel of General Railway Police and the Railway Protection Force have also beefed up security at railway stations across the district, while checking of baggage has been intensified.

In Belagavi

Meanwhile, in the neighbouring Belagavi district, the police have beefed up security measures in crowded places by deploying the anti-sabotage check team.

According to the Belagavi Police Commissioner, patrolling has been increased in the city and all officers have been asked to stay extra alert.

Similarly, security has been beefed up in public places in the districts of Gadag, Haveri, Uttara Kannada, Vijayapura, Bagalkot and Davangere districts in the wake of the Delhi blast.
