Following a car blast near Red Fort on November 10, the Delhi police have stepped up security near the heritage site, which will host an event to commemorate the 350th death anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur from November 23 to 25.
Nearly 50,000 people are expected to attend the event, an officer said on Thursday. President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are also likely to participate, said Jasmain Singh Noni, secretary of the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Committee (DSGMC).
At least 25 additional CCTVs have been installed on roads leading to the monument and a security grid – comprising the Central Industrial Security Force, Delhi Police, and bomb squads – will conduct checks, the officer said.
The DSGMC has set up another 250 to 300 cameras to maintain round-the-clock surveillance.
Additionally, the police have been making announcements in the Chandni Chowk area, urging citizens to remain vigilant, verify tenants and avoid accepting food from strangers.
