Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman in Coimbatore on Sunday criticised that paddy was getting damaged and wasted in rains every year as the State government was not procuring the grains properly.

Mr. Seeman told journalists that the State government, which was providing warehouses and security for liquor stocks of Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation, was leaving essential grains like paddy on the streets, without proper procurement.

Attributing it as a recurring issue, not alone this year, the NTK leader said the grains would not have been wasted if proper warehouses were constructed under the tenures of former Chief Ministers Karunanidhi, Jayalalithaa and Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

He alleged that only ₹4 crore was spent on tarpaulins [to protect paddy] and asked how many crore was spent on a memorial. “Leaving the paddy on the street to sprout was the government’s achievement,” he remarked.

Expressing concerns on the Special Intensive Revision scheme of the Election Commission of India, Mr. Seeman said 1.5 crore people from north Indian States were in Tamil Nadu and they would transform it to another Hindi-speaking State if they were given voting rights. He claimed that 20,000 votes, which made BJP leader Vanathi Srinivasan win in Coimbatore South Assembly constituency, were that of north Indians.

To a question on Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay meeting the families of those who died in Karur stampede at Mamallapuram on Monday, Mr. Seeman said it was the actor-turned politician’s personal choice.
