Sekarbabu reviews progress of projects in north Chennai

HR&CE Minister and Chairman of Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) P.K. Sekarbabu on Saturday inspected and reviewed the progress of the construction work being carried out at the Thiruvottiyur Government Polytechnic College and Government Industrial Training Institute in Thiruvottiyur Assembly constituency.

The work is being carried out at a cost of ₹46.50 crore by CMDA under the North Chennai Development Programme.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Sekarbabu said that the construction work is progressing at a good pace and that the students studying currently in temporary buildings will be shifted to the new buildings soon. “A timeline has been fixed for these construction works to be fully completed by the end of February 2026. Meetings have been held with the contractors, and instructions have been given to accelerate the pace of work,” he said.

Mr. Sekarbabu also said that CMDA plans to establish 10 libraries in total as a part of Chief Minister’s Study Centres project. “By February 2026, more than 70% of the work under the Chief Minister’s Study Centre project will be completed,” he said.

Regarding the State government machinery’s preparedness to tackle the Northeast monsoon rain, he said, “Chief Minister visited the State Emergency Operations Centre located at Ezhilagam in Chennai and reviewed the precautionary measures to be taken during natural disasters.”
