A seminar will be held at Rajendra Bhavan in New Delhi on Thursday to mark the golden jubilee celebrations of Citizens for Democracy (CFD).

CFD coordinator S.R. Hiremath told presspersons in Dharwad on Monday that the organisation has launched a campaign titled “Save Democracy and the Constitution” as part of the golden jubilee celebrations and its members and those from like-minded organisations will participate in the seminar.

Mr. Hiremath said that an unconstitutional law was introduced in 2023 that undermined the independence of the Election Commission and consequently, the commission which lost its independence has been pushed into a crisis.

Mr. Hiremath termed the Supreme Court direction on investigation of the ₹20,000-crore scam involving Anil Ambani and three other companies and issuing notices to the Central government, the ED and the CBI, as a welcome step.

Elaborating on the extensive damage caused in Ballari district due to indiscriminate mining, he demanded a complete ban on new mining permits in the region.
