Seven employees of a warehouse operated by an e-commerce company at Okkilipalayam in Chettipalayam police station limits were arrested for reportedly indulging in systematic theft and substitution of goods.

In his police complaint, enforcement officer of the warehouse of Flipkart, Sakthivel (64) of Kuniamuthur on Friday (November 7, 2025) said eight employees in the packing section, including one who was absconding, had indulged in the offence between April 4 and September 17.

During the routine verification process, it came to light that certain return parcels received at the warehouse — specifically those marked as seven kg washing powder packets — contained expensive laptops.

Subsequent CCTV footage analysis revealed that some of the warehouse labourers were involved in systematic theft and substitution of goods. The accused had allegedly placed false customer orders for low-value items (washing powder) either by themselves or in the names of known persons, according to the complainant.

Once such orders reached the warehouse for processing, they clandestinely replaced those low-value items with expensive goods like mobile phones, laptops, watches, and other electronic devices from the company stock before dispatching the parcels, thereby misappropriating valuable items for personal gain, the complaint said.

The stolen properties include various high-end electronic gadgets and accessories — Vivo, Samsung, Nothing and Apple cellphones, ASUS and Lenovo laptops, smart watches, earbuds, headphones, cameras, and speakers valued at a little over ₹11.5 lakh.

Further investigation is in progress to trace additional stolen property.

Vignesh (25) of Pollachi, Kishorekumar (24) of Ramanathapuram, Sri Sanjay (20) of Podanur, Siranjeevi (26) and Yogesh (26) of Tiruppur, and Ashla (25) and Mohammed Adil of Kozhikode in Kerala State were arrested. They were remanded in judicial custody.

The Chettipalayam police registered a case under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 (Old Sec.381 IPC), and are on the lookout for the absconding employee Anjali.
