The Coimbatore City Police have registered a case against seven men for assaulting patrol officers on Friday night (November 28) in Kovaipudur.

According to the police, patrol officers of D4 Kuniamuthur police station were on night duty around 10 p.m. near CBM College, Kovaipudur, when they noticed a group of young men celebrating birthday in a public place. The officers, who found the men under the influence of alcohol, advised them to return home, as public gatherings at that hour were not permitted.

The men reportedly resisted, questioning why they could not celebrate, and allegedly assaulted the officers. Police said the suspects pushed and kicked the officers and attempted to seize the video recording made by the patrolling staff.

The accused have been identified as Karthi (29), Gokul Kannan (23), Manikandan (20), Nitish (21), Chandru (25), Rajesh (27), and Afsal (18), all residents of Coimbatore.

A case was registered at D4 Kuniamuthur police station on the complaint of SSI Selvapandi. Further investigation is on.
