Seven persons were honoured by the Maharajapuram Viswanatha Iyer Trust here on Sunday.
The Kalasevak’s Award was presented to Arumugam, honorary secretary of Nellai Sangeetha Sabha, Tirunelveli, N. Balasubramaniam and S. Ravichandran, honorary secretaries of Brahma Gana Sabha, Chennai.
Senior Musician’s Award
The Senior Musician’s Award went to mridangam exponent B. Gowrishankar, Toronto, Canada.
Vivek Sadasivam, Delhi R. Sridhar and Rohit Prasad received the Youth Excellence Award.
Violin maestro Nagai R. Muralidharan said the trust has been successfully run for several years and deserves to be lauded for it. Year after year, they not only honour experienced people who make significant contributions in the field of music, but also encourage youngsters.
Maharajapuram Srinivasan, manager trustee of the Trust, said, Mr. Muralidharan is an extremely fine musician, and it is a pleasure to hear him play and speak of music.
