Candidates of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) emerged victorious in the departmental students’ union (DSU) elections held on the campus of the University of Calicut on Friday (October 31, 2025).
Though the elections were earlier held on October 10, they were cancelled by Vice-Chancellor P. Raveendran citing procedural lapses after a clash erupted between SFI activists and those belonging to the Kerala Students Union (KSU) and the Muslim Students’ Federation (MSF). Following this, SFI candidates approached the Kerala High Court, which directed the university to complete the process by October 31. A new returning officer was appointed for the elections. Meanwhile, the United Democratic Students’ Front (UDSF), a coalition of the KSU and the MSF, decided to boycott the election.
Results
A large number of police personnel were present on the campus during the process. When the results were declared, SFI candidates won all the nine general seats by a margin of over 1,000 votes. UDSF candidates polled up to 340 votes. The winners are T.V. Amardev (chairman), P. Risvana Sherin (vice-chairperson), K. Sabah Thanveer (general secretary), G. Gopika (joint secretary), K.J. Sreekala (fine arts secretary), K.N. Noufal and P.U. Riju Krishnan (university union councillors), J. Nayana (student editor), K.T. Hathif (general captain)
