The Sharanabasveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha, a century-old educational institution that has transformed the academic landscape of the Kalyana Karnataka region, has been conferred the ISTE National Best Education Society Award – 2025.
The award was presented to Uma Deshmukh, member of the board of governors of Sharnbasva University, by former Union Minister and former Mumbai Police Commissioner Satya Pal Singh and ISTE president Pratapsinh Kakasaheb Desai at the 55th ISTE National Annual Faculty Convention, held at Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College in Puducherry on Saturday.
Established in 1903, the Sharanabasveshwar Vidya Vardak Sangha, best known for founding Sharnbasva University, the first private university in North Karnataka, runs a wide network of institutions offering education from Montessori to doctoral levels. Its efforts are credited with reshaping and uplifting the once educationally backward Kalyana Karnataka region.
A medallion and citation were presented to Ms. Deshmukh as part of the award. A five-minute video showcasing the sangha’s achievements and contributions to education was screened during the event.
The Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE), a premier national body dedicated to advancing technical education, said that it chose the Sangha for its outstanding role in enhancing technical education, serving communities, and maintaining high academic standards. ISTE has over 97,300 technical teachers, six lakh student members, and 2,345 institutional members, including IITs, IISc, NITs and other leading institutions. It is the only nationwide organisation of engineering and technology educators and works closely with the Union Ministry of Education in policy and programme implementation.
Prominent dignitaries present at the ceremony included P. Prakash Babu, Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University; M. Dhanasekaran, Chancellor of Takshashila University; V. S. K. Venkatachalapathy, director of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College; S.M. Ali, Executive Secretary, ISTE, New Delhi, among others.
