The cybercrime police in Coimbatore have arrested two siblings from Belagavi in Karnataka district for cheating a city-based woman of ₹38.62 lakh in an online investment fraud.

The police said that M. Thangaraju, 47, and his brother M. Shanmugasundaram, 50, were arrested based on a complaint lodged by a 64-year-old woman from Coimbatore.

The woman from Navavoor Pirivu had complained to the cybercrime that the accused convinced and made her invest ₹38,62,938 by promising high profits from investments in institutional shares and initial public offerings, specifically mentioning the names of certain companies. The woman had alleged that the accused defrauded her of the money.

The cybercrime police registered a case and were on the lookout for the accused, who were arrested from Belagavi. They were produced before a court in Coimbatore and were sent to the Coimbatore Central Prison in judicial remand on Friday.
