Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader and Chidambaram M. P. Thol. Thirumavalavan said the actual intention of Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was to not verify identity of voters but to achieve their agenda of creating a ‘Hindu Rashtra,”
Speaking at the 2nd State conference of Equality Lawyers Association, legal wing of VCK, on Constitution Day (November 26) here, he added, “If the Union government claim that SIR was an effort to identify and remove foreigners from the voters list, will they be able to declare how many foreigners were there in the 43 lakh voters they removed during SIR in the Bihar.”
Claiming to clean India, he said, the BJP government was into discarding Muslims, who have migrated from foreign countries, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
“Though the Election Commission of India does not possess the authority to determine the citizenship of anyone, Union Home Minister in a recent event in Gujarat accepted that SIR was a way to implement National Register of Citizens (NRC),” Mr. Thirumavalavan contended.
“Notwithstanding the appreciations from BJP for the Indian Constitution, they despise it for standing in their way to achieve their goal of creating Hindu nation,” he noted.
Starting from the Citizenship Amendment Act, abrogation of Article 370, SIR implementation, all the efforts should be understood from their original motive, he stated.
“Only by reading and understanding Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, can one understand every step of BJP and RSS,” he said.
Recalling how the Dalit movements stood together in Tamil Nadu about 10 years ago, Mr. Thirumavalavan, challenged if the same could happen now in the State.
“They (BJP) have played out their plan to isolate all the OBCs and Dalits from joining together. This well-planned move of RSS-Sangh Parivar organisations in the State through BJP has almost separated people based on their caste and religion in the State,” he observed.
Yet, through the fears of people like Governor R.N. Ravi, their inability to hinduise and sanskritise the State, was being displayed, he said.
“In order to prevent such moves, like-minded movements and parties to stand together to fight them,” he appealed.
At the event, Founder and Executive Director of People’s Watch, a human rights organisation based in Madurai, advocate Henri Tiphagne was conferred with ‘Puratchiyalar Ambedkar Satta Maamanidhar Virudhu’ award.
A. Arulmozhi of Dravidar Kazhagam, Nellai Mubarak of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI), advocate Bhavani B. Mohan, senior advocate Lajapathi Roy, social activist ‘Evidence’ Kathir, among others spoke at the event.
