Siruthuli, in collaboration with Karur Vysya Bank (KVB) and the district administration, has initiated a major rejuvenation effort for the Noyyal River System through the restoration of two vital anicuts – Pudukaadu and Kil Chithiraichavadi.

For over 23 years, Siruthuli has been dedicated to the revival of the Noyyal River System, consistently working on cleaning feeder streams, desilting anicuts, and restoring irrigation channels that bring lifeline water to farmlands. Anicuts form an integral part of this system, channelising river water to the interconnected tanks of Coimbatore. However, years of neglect has rendered many anicuts ineffective, disrupting the natural flow of water and weakening the efficiency of the region’s traditional water-management system.

The rejuvenation of these anicuts and feeder channels will enhance water-holding capacity, improve groundwater recharge, and enable the smooth movement of fresh water into the tanks – an urgent necessity at a time when most major lakes in Coimbatore face contamination from wastewater, leading to aquifer degradation.

The rejuvenation works were inaugurated in the presence District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar, Head – CSR Cell, Karur Vysya Bank, Nadhiya Mali, Coimbatore Divisional Manager, KVB, Krishnan, along with Vanitha Mohan, Managing Trustee, Siruthuli, Nallathambi, Assistant Engineer, Water Resources Department and farmer association leaders S. Palanisamy and Mr. Aruchamy.

The rejuvenation of Pudukkadu Anaicut will augment the groundwater recharge, increase agricultural productivity of farmers situated adjacent to the anicut and feeder channel and increase cultivation area. It will benefit 533 ayacut acres and 180 farmers directly and 1,066 farmers indirectly. As many as 180 open wells and 150 bore wells will be recharged.

The Kil Chitiraichavadi Anaicut will ensure enhanced groundwater recharge, a surge in agricultural productivity of farmers situated adjacent to the anicut, increased cultivation area, and improved productivity resulting in the change of cropping patterns. As many as 2,093 ayacut acres and 697 farmers will be benefitted directly and 2,500 farmers indirectly. It will recharge 697 open wells and 700 bore wells.
