After seven hours of grilling in the multi-crore liquor scam, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) police arrested YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leader and Rajampet Member of Parliament P.V. Midhun Reddy here on Saturday.

The SIT personnel also informed the family members of Mr. Midhun Reddy about his arrest.

Mr. Midhun Reddy’s arrest was on the cards after the Supreme Court rejected his pela for anticipatory bail on July 18. In all, 12 persons had so far been arrested in the case.

The investigation officers charged Mr. Midhun Reddy with playing a key role in the multi-crore liquor scam. He had conspired with the other accused to divert the money collected from the distillery companies, it was alleged.

The SIT officials grilled Mr. Midhun Reddy, who appeared before them for the second time on Saturday, on floating of new distillery companies, collection of kickbacks from the liquor traders, depositing of money into his companies, his links with the accused and other issues.

Mr. Midhun Reddy, however, alleged that the case was politically motivated and that he was falsely implicated in the scam. “I will fight legally over the false case,” Mr. Midhun Reddy told the media before heading to the SIT office.

The SIT would produce Mr. Midhun Reddy (Accused No. 4) in the ACB Special Court in Vijayawada on July 20 (Sunday).

The police arranged tight security at the SIT office located in the NTR Police Commissioner’s Office.
