Sivaganga District Police on Monday booked the driver of one of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses involved in the head-on collision that killed 10 passengers and the driver of the other bus in the district on Sunday evening.
The police said P. Sendrayan, 36, who was driving the bus towards Karaikudi, was killed on the spot. Sudhakar, who was driving a Dindigul-bound bus, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for treatment.
Based on a complaint filed by the Siravayal Village Administrative Officer, Nachiyapuram police have booked Sudhakar for negligent driving. Police sources said Sudhakar was a temporary driver. He was previously driving a goods truck.
During the preliminary inquiry, it was found that Sudhakar drove the bus at speed above the permitted limit on the narrow road and caused the accident, the police said.
