Sivaganga police’s combing operation in forest results in arrest of two history-sheeters

 Sivaganga district police through a drone-employed forest combing operation caught two history-sheeters who were celebrating the birthday of one of their acquaintances along with their gang. 

As the police received information about the gathering of more than 10 history-sheeters in the forest areas of Keelakulam to organise a birthday party on Sunday, a team headed by Sivaganga Deputy Superintendent of Police Amala Advin was constituted to nab the accused who were on the run.

Mr. Amala Advin, speaking about the operation, said since they received the information about their gathering in the forest, owing to vastness and nature of the forest, which was dense and bushy, they deployed a drone to monitor the activity from a bird’s eye view.  

Thanks to the weekly combing operations, the police personnel were able to operate and locate the activity with ease, he noted.  

“Though we identified the accused and what they were doing, the 40-member team could not easily reach the accused due to the difficult terrain,” he added.  

“Additionally, the 20-member team headed by two inspectors who entered the forest was also under pressure to remain unseen and vigilant from the hounds used by the accused to alert them,” Mr. Advin narrated.  

However, after close to one hour of entering the forest, the team surrounded the accused who were busy cooking and celebrating, he added.  

As the police team sneaked into their location, they managed to nab only two accused while the others scattered and escaped into the forest. 

“We caught two history sheeters S. Pal Pandi, 25, and S. Saravanan alias Santosh, 30, who have many theft, robbery, chain snatching and murder cases pending against them,” he said.

Though the duo along with the other accused were on the run for more than two months, their movement was under their monitoring radar, and it greatly helped the police jump into action at the right time.  

Mr. Advin said about two swords and five two-wheelers were seized from the gang and they were further patrolling the nearby areas to nab other escaped accused too.
