Thiruppunavasal police have arrested six persons, including a woman, on charges of assaulting a private bus driver at Kudalur bus stop on Thiruppunavasal – Avudaiyarkoil road in the district on Sunday night.
The injured bus driver and complainant, A. Stalin Sahayaraj, 32, was admitted to Aranthangi Government Hospital.
Police sources said Stalin Sahayaraj drove the bus to Thondi in Ramanathapuram district from Aranthangi on Sunday evening. He halted the vehicle at Kudalur bus stop for passengers to alight.
A group of four persons on two motorcycles, who were behind the bus, reportedly kept honking demanding passage. They managed to overtake the bus and entered into an argument with the driver. After a few hours, while the bus was returning from Thondi at night, a group of persons lay in wait at Kudalur bus stop and intercepted the vehicle.
The group entered into the bus and severely thrashed the driver besides abusing him. A video of the assault of the driver was widely shared on social media platforms. Thiruppunavasal police conducted inquiry and arrested six persons hailing from Kaadathivayal. A case was registered.
