Six persons were arrested for illegal possession and sale of painkiller tablets in Puzhal. A total of 250 pain relief tablets were seized from them.
A team led by the Inspector of Puzhal Police Station received a tip-off, and conducted an inspection near the Madhanankuppam playground on Tuesday. Upon searching Meganathan, 19, of Puzhal, they found a stash of painkiller tablets on him. The accused was arrested and a case registered.
Based on the information provided by him, the police arrested five more accused — Vijay 28, Jasmin, 29, Rahmathullah, 25, Karthik, 27, and Karthik, alias Stephen Karthik, 22 — all residents of Chennai.
Investigation revealed that Meganathan and Rahmathullah had eight criminal cases each against them, while Vijay and Jasmin had one case each, Karthik had four, and Stephen Karthik six.
All six accused were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody.
