A QR code-enabled Smart Farmer Identification Card (SFIC) has been launched in Puducherry at the recently held State Level Bankers’ Committee meeting here.

Minister for Agriculture C. Djeacoumar launched the card in the presence of Finance Secretary Krishna Mohan Uppu, Secretary, Agriculture and Yasin Mohammed Choudhary. The card replaces traditional booklet-style identity cards with a single digital identity for availing crop loans, subsidies, and other services, an official release said.

Supported by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) under its Farm Sector Promotion Fund, with a grant of ₹9. 50 lakh, the SFIC would ensure transparency, reduce delays and pave the way for paperless agricultural financing, the release said.

The Minister, in his address, urged banks to utilise CSR funds to support farmers by providing them with agricultural tools. “The Smart Card will ensure real-time verification, transparency and prevents duplication,” he said

Indian Bank Executive Director Shiv Bajrang Singh, NABARD general manager P. S Harikrishnaraj and RBI general manager Rajkumar were among others who attended the event.
