Social media influencer held for defaming Coimbatore woman

The cybercrime police in Coimbatore on Thursday arrested a social media influencer from Tiruchi on the charge of defaming and intimidating a Coimbatore-based woman on Instagram.

The arrested has been identified as B. Karthik, 28, of Srinivasa Nagar at Tennur in Tiruchi district.

According to the cybercrime police, a 20-year-old woman from Kaundampalayam lodged a complaint against Karthik, accusing him of having posted a video on his Instagram page, in which he defamed her and threatened her of chopping her into pieces.

The police registered a case and arrested the accused on Thursday. The police said the accused has a large number of followers on social media.
