A 29-year-old software professional was detained by the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police on Wednesday after security personnel discovered a live bullet in his baggage during screening.

The passenger, identified as Vishal, a resident of Ranchi, Jharkhand, was travelling from Kolkata to Bengaluru on a connecting flight via Hyderabad. During a routine security check at the Hyderabad airport, officials found a 0.387 mm live round in his possession and immediately alerted the police, said RGIA Outpost Inspector S Kanakaiah.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the bullet belonged to Vishal’s father, a retired army officer who holds a valid firearm licence. The official said that the accused claimed that he had unknowingly carried the round while travelling.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is under way.
