Solid waste management in the city has gone haywire, Mangaluru City South MLA D. Vedavyasa Kamath said here on Thursday.

Addressing presspersons the MLA said that with Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) having no elected body (council) since past over eight months, the MCC led by the administrator who is the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada has failed to prevent increasing black spots in the city.

“Garbage is seen spilled over on road sides all over the city,” the MLA said.

Mr. Kamath said that once a clean city without black spots has lost its image, and dumping garbage on the sides of highways, interior, and main roads has become order of the day. The MCC officials have not taken it seriously.

The MLA said that complaints of people to clear garbage from public places have been falling on deaf ears.

On the other hand, MCC has not filled potholes on main and interior roads in the city at many places. “The Pumpwell-Karvali Circle main road is inviting risk to vehicle users, especially two-wheeler riders, at any time due to its bad condition,” the MLA said.

Mr. Kamath said that it appears the Congress led government is completely ignoring Mangaluru in development projects.

He said Urban Development Minister B. Suresha when visited Mangaluru earlier had announced of releasing ₹75 crores to MCC as special grant for development works. It has remained only a promise. The government has not released ₹25 crore to each MLA as grant, he said.

Mr. Kamath said that MCC taking five days to repair the broken main water supply line at Adyar reflected the efficiency of the administration. Even after restoring the water supply on Thursday many areas in the city did not get water. The MCC did not supply water through tankers to people who were deprived of it in the past five days, he said.
