Sonia Gandhi to contest from Nallathanni ward in Munnar this time

In this local body election,Sonia Gandhi is contesting in the Nallathanni ward of the Munnar grama panchayat in Idukki. However, she is contesting as a BJP candidate. Durai Raj, a staunch supporter of the Congress, named his daughter after his favourite leader, Sonia Gandhi. Though from a Congress family, Ms. Gandhi, after her marriage with BJP Munnar panchayat general secretary Subash, has shifted to the BJP fold and is now contesting as its candidate in her electoral debut.

In the Tamil majority area of the Devikulam Assembly constituency in Munnar, it is common for people to have the names of prominent leaders. Names such as Rajiv Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, Kasturba Gandhi, Indira Priyadarshini, Rahul, Sanjay Gandhi, Lenin, and Stalin are common here.
