Southern Railway General Manager R.N. Singh reviewed the on-going station redevelopment works at Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar, Madurai and Dindigul, in Madurai Railway Division on Wednesday.
Accompanied by senior railway officials, including Divisional Railway Manager Om Prakash Meena, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) Sushil Kumar Maurya, and Chief Engineer (Construction) Sanjay Prasad Singh, inspected the buildings under construction at those stations.

He also inspected the ongoing construction of the sixth platform at Tirunelveli railway station.
Station redevelopment work at Tirunelveli was underway at a cost of ₹92.8 crore. The works include construction of new East and West terminal buildings, a 12-metre-wide air concourse, escalators, lifts and staircases for platform connectivity, improved circulating areas on both sides, and comprehensive platform upgrades.
Sixty per cent of the work has been completed and the project is scheduled to be completed by February 2026.

Virudhunagar station redevelopment works, at a cost of ₹30.55 crore, has been take up under Amrit Station Scheme. Works of construction of entrance arch, compound wall, circulating area and road works, covered parking for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, façade and canopy, relocation of service buildings, and installation of the Integrated Passenger Information System have been completed.
Further, renovation of the concourse building, work for six-metre-wide foot-over-bridge with lift facilities and canopy extension are in progress. The work has been targeted for completion by March 2026.
Madurai
Madurai station redevelopment included new terminal buildings at East and West entries, a 42-metre-wide air concourse, revamped FOB, a dedicated FOB for parcel movement, multilevel two-wheeler and four-wheeler parking facilities, covered walkways, skywalk and a subway to directly connect the station with Periyar Bus Stand. The work has been taken up at a cost of ₹347 crore, the statement said.
Multilevel two-wheeler parking at the East entry and multilevel four-wheeler parking at the West entry have been completed and opened for public use. Work for another multilevel four-wheeler parking facility on the North side of the East entry is in progress. The work would be completed by November 2026.
Under the Amrit Station scheme, new terminal building with booking office, waiting hall, canopy and facade would be provided to Dindigul station under Amrit station scheme at a cost of ₹22.71 crore.
Besides, parking areas and circulating areas development, provision of shelter on Platforms 1, 2 and 3, FOB with lift facilities, road widening would be completed by May 2026.
The General Manager also conducted speed trial between Tirunelveli and Tiruchi.
