South India, long recognised as a knowledge capital, continues to attract a rising number of global capability centres (GCCs) and is experiencing sustained, broad-based growth across States, said Nithin Chandra, senior partner at Kearney India.

Kearney, a global management consulting firm that recently opened an office in Chennai, now has four offices – Chennai, Mumbai, Gurugram and Bengaluru, and close to 800 employees.

Be it high technology industries, the semi-conductor sector, electric vehicles, or automobiles and auto components, the potential in South India is huge, he said. While the US tariffs are a challenge now, orders can pick up again in the future.

On the infrastructure front, land is not an issue and skilling of workers requires focus. But, challenges related to electricity cost should be addressed in Tamil Nadu, he said.

“Our new Chennai office underlines our confidence in the region and the pace at which Tamil Nadu is moving,” said Siddharth Jain, Managing Partner and Country Head, Kearney India, in a press release. Mr. Chandra added that the focus will be to support industries, including those in auto/auto-components, consumer, energy, healthcare, and hi-tech manufacturing.
